What's the Best Balance Druid Leveling Build in WoW Forever?

The short answer

Go deep Balance and fix your mana first: 5/5 Improved Wrath at 10–14, then Moonglow, Nature's Majesty and Improved Moonfire, Insect Swarm at 25, Vengeance and Nature's Grace around 30, and Moonkin Form at 40. Nature's Focus follows at 41, and you finish at 60 with a 41/0/10 build. Talents can still change before launch, so check the tooltips in game before you spend a point.

Balance in WoW Forever isn't the Balance you remember from 2005. The tree now has Insect Swarm, Eclipse and a real Moonkin capstone, and Improved Wrath halves the cost of your main spell. That makes "boomkin" a real leveling option for the first time. The catch is that every point matters: get the order wrong and you spend the 20s drinking instead of killing.

The build at a glance

Each lit talent shows its rank and the levels when you take it. Points start at level 10, and each new row of the tree opens every 5 levels.

Talent names and values come from WoW Forever's pre-launch data (BlizzCon demo and beta). Blizzard can still tune them before the November 4 launch, and we'll update this build if anything changes. Got the "Talented" Legacy perk? Your points start earlier (as early as level 5), so follow the same order a few levels sooner.

Why each talent, level by level
LevelTalentWhy
10–14Improved Wrath 5/5Wrath is 0.5 sec faster and costs half the mana. The single biggest leveling talent.
15–17Moonglow 3/3−25% mana on every damaging spell.
18–19Nature's Majesty 2/2+4% crit.
20Nature's Splendor 1/1+3 sec on Moonfire, so one cast covers the whole kill.
21–22Improved Moonfire 2/2+10% damage and crit on Moonfire. Unlocks Vengeance.
23–24Nature's Reach 2/2+4% hit and +20% range: fewer resists on higher-level mobs.
25Insect Swarm 1/1Second DoT; the target's chance to hit you drops by 2%.
26–29, 31Vengeance 5/5+100% crit damage bonus on Arcane and Nature spells.
30Nature's Grace 1/1After a direct spell crit, 10% faster casts for 3 sec.
32–34Eclipse 3/3Each Wrath makes your next 2 Starfires 0.5 sec faster.
35–39Moonfury 5/5+10% Arcane and Nature damage.
40Moonkin Form 1/1Omen of Clarity (baseline at 20) procs twice as often, plus much more armor.
41–45Nature's Focus 5/570% chance to ignore pushback when hit while casting. Taken right after Moonkin so it doesn't delay any Balance milestone.
46–50Improved Starfire 5/5Starfire 0.5 sec faster, 15% chance to stun for 3 sec.
51–55Naturalist 5/5+5% to all damage you deal.
56–60Genesis 5/5+5% periodic damage on Moonfire and Insect Swarm.

Why this order works

Solo leveling as a caster comes down to how long a kill takes and how many kills you get before you drink. So the build goes mana first (Improved Wrath and Moonglow), then crits (Nature's Majesty, Improved Moonfire, Vengeance), then speed (Nature's Grace, Eclipse) and Moonkin Form at 40. Restoration points don't count toward unlocking Balance rows, so every point spent there pushes the next Balance talent back a level. That's why Nature's Focus waits until right after Moonkin Form.

5 quick tips before you start

  1. Spend points the moment you get them. Your first 8 points are all mana. Every level you sit on an unspent point is a level of extra drinking.
  2. Open with Moonfire, finish with Wrath. Before 20, Moonfire then Wrath spam kills most mobs before they reach you. Add Insect Swarm at 25 on anything that will live long enough.
  3. Keep your mana for one shapeshift. If a pull goes wrong, Bear Form saves your life. Save enough mana to shift.
  4. Learn new ranks every even level. A higher rank of Wrath or Moonfire is a bigger damage upgrade than most talent points.

The real tips: playing Balance while leveling

Levels 10–20: Wrath is your whole kit

Until Starfire arrives at 20, your rotation is Moonfire, then Wrath until the mob dies. With Improved Wrath the cast is 0.5 sec shorter, so most mobs die before they reach you. When one does reach you, finish it with another Wrath rather than switching to melee. Starting at level 8, Entangling Roots on a mob that's running at you buys two or three free casts.

Levels 20–30: two DoTs, then Wrath

Starfire arrives at 20, but for now its long cast is mostly an opener. Pull with Starfire if the mob is far away, then Moonfire, Insect Swarm from 25, and Wrath until it dies. Thanks to Nature's Splendor, one Moonfire covers the whole fight, so never reapply it on a mob that's about to die. Nature's Reach at 23–24 means fewer resists against mobs one or two levels above you, which is where most quest mobs sit.

Levels 30–40: start the Eclipse rhythm

From 30, crits matter: each direct spell crit triggers Nature's Grace and speeds up your next casts. Once Eclipse is 3/3 (level 34), cast one Wrath, then two Starfires. On long fights, like elites or anything at your level or higher, Moonfire + Insect Swarm + Wrath + 2× Starfire is your loop. On mobs that die in three or four casts, skip Starfire and just Wrath.

Level 40: stay in Moonkin Form

Moonkin Form makes Omen of Clarity proc twice as often, and each proc makes your next spell free. It also multiplies your gear's armor, so melee mobs that reach you hurt a lot less. You can't cast healing spells in it. Heal in caster form between pulls, then shift back before the next one.

Use roots for pulls that go wrong

When two mobs come at you, root one, then DoT and Wrath the other. Entangling Roots in Forever can break from damage, so don't put DoTs on the rooted mob. If you love pulling packs, there's a multi-root variant: at 56–60, take Improved Entangling Roots 3/3 and Overgrowth 2/2 instead of Genesis. You can root up to 3 targets, and rooted mobs take up to 75% more damage without breaking free.

Drink less, kill more

Talents fix most of your mana problems, but not all. Buy water that matches your level every time you pass a vendor. Drink when you're low, not when you're empty, and loot while you drink. Save Innervate (level 40) for long dungeon pulls or the next big pack. Mana potions are worth carrying for escort quests and elites.

Respec when you start dungeons

This is a leveling build. Nature's Focus is there because mobs hit you while you cast, which rarely happens in a group with a tank. At 60, if you raid as Balance, look at the endgame build instead of copying this one.

Quick questions

Is Balance Druid good for leveling in WoW Forever?

Yes. It's a solid ranged leveler once Improved Wrath and Moonglow are in. Mana is still its weak spot compared to Feral, which drinks far less, so Balance rewards careful pulls and a full water stack.

What level do you get Moonkin Form in WoW Forever?

Level 40, if you put every point into Balance from level 10. It needs 30 points in the tree first. With the "Talented" Legacy perk, you can reach it a few levels earlier.

Is Insect Swarm a Balance talent in WoW Forever?

Yes. It moved into the Balance tree and opens at level 25 with this build. It deals Nature damage over 12 sec and lowers the target's chance to hit by 2%.

Will these talents change at launch?

They might. The tree comes from pre-launch data, and Blizzard is still tuning classes before the November 4, 2026 launch. We'll update this post when the launch talents are confirmed.
