How Long Does It Take to Reach Level 30 in the WoW Forever Beta?

The short answer

Plan for roughly 12 to 45 hours /played to go from 1 to 30 in the WoW Forever beta. Speed-levelers on an optimized route land at the low end; relaxed questers at the high end. The beta is still changing, so treat every number here as an estimate, not a promise.

The WoW Forever beta opened on September 17 with a level 20 cap, and on October 1 the cap moved up to 30. That changed the question everyone in the beta is asking: how long is the climb to 30 actually going to take? Here's an honest look at the numbers we could find, what's slowing people down, and how to make the most of your hours.

Time estimates by play style

Nobody has published a measured "1 to 30" time from the beta yet, so the numbers below are our own estimates, built from what beta testers have been reporting and how the Classic XP curve grows. Levels 20–30 need noticeably more XP per level than 1–20, so the second half of the climb always feels slower.

Play style1 → 30 (our estimate)
Speed-leveler — optimized route, little downtime~12–18 h
Experienced player — efficient questing, some grouping~22–32 h
Relaxed / returning player — exploring, chatting, side quests~35–45 h

These are estimates, not measurements, and they will move as Blizzard tunes the beta. We'll replace them with times measured by our own boosters.

What changed in the October beta builds

Two rounds of changes matter for leveling speed:

Blizzard's stated goal is that a perfect dungeon group levels close to — but not faster than — optimal questing. Put together: dungeons are worth running for the kills, but questing in your own level range is still the backbone of the climb.

5 quick tips before you start

  1. Log out in an inn or a city. Rested XP boosts your kill XP, and the "Well Rested" perk in Forever's Legacy tree makes it build faster and stack higher. Every evening you stop playing is free XP tomorrow.
  2. Don't chain-run dungeons for quests. Since October 2 the quest bonus is halved. Run them when the group is ready and the kills are good — not as your main route.
  3. Group with players at your level. Party XP now follows your own level, so a higher-level friend no longer drags your XP down — but a much lower-level group still slows you.
  4. Train every even level and keep your gear current. New ranks and quest-reward weapons cut kill time more than anything else in the 20s.

The real tips: leveling 1–30 efficiently

Batch your quests by hub

Before leaving a town, pick up every quest it offers for your level and plan one loop that covers all of them. Turn them in together, then move on. Running back and forth between hubs for single quests is the biggest hidden time sink in Classic-style leveling.

Kill what's on the way

Kills aren't free in Classic-style combat — but walking past them is wasted XP. If a mob is on your path and close to your level, take it. Skip anything that forces a long detour.

Cut your downtime

Eating and drinking between pulls adds up to hours over 30 levels. Level First Aid early and use bandages, carry enough food and water for a full loop, and keep your bags clear so you don't have to run to a vendor mid-loop.

Use rested XP on purpose

Rested XP applies to kills, not quest turn-ins. When you log in with a full rested bar, start with a grinding-heavy part of your route; save quest turn-ins for when rested is gone.

Be picky with elite and escort quests

Group quests are great XP when a group is already there and painful when you spend 20 minutes looking for one. If you can't find people in a few minutes, drop them and come back later.

Plan your late-20s dungeon

The level 30 build also added a new dungeon, Excavation Site: Wetlands, aimed at the mid-to-late 20s (sites list it as 24–29 or 26–31). With kill XP buffed on October 8, one clean run near the end of the climb can be a nice push — just don't count on the quest bonus.

Quick questions

What is the level cap in the WoW Forever beta?

Level 30 since October 1. The beta started at level 20. At launch on November 4, 2026, the cap will be 60.

Is leveling in WoW Forever faster than in Classic?

Not really. Forever keeps the Classic XP curve and has slower combat, so expect a similar or slightly longer climb unless you play efficiently and use rested XP.

How long until the beta ends?

The beta is scheduled to run until around October 21, 2026, ahead of the November 4 launch.
